Suddenly, a person runs into David. He's taken by surprise by the impact. The two stumble back a little. That's when David sees who he ran into, someone who he never thought he would see again. Jack Kelly. His first love. It's clear that Jack hasn't forgotten him either. What if ... Jack and David knew each other before the strike? What if they were close friends? What if ... they were lovers? It's not easy for either of them. Come on, who wants to be selling newspapers with their ex? But then the prices rise, and everything changes. And now with the strike, they'll have to reevaluate everything: how they used to be, what went wrong ... and how they feel for each other now. Modern AU As a social experiment a group of people who have never met, with a few exceptions, are all sent to an exclusive, secluded boarding school for a year. The aim, you may ask. No one truly knew. Well all except for Joseph Pulitzer, the man organising the entire experiment. While at this boarding school, some of the newsies find out about Pulitzer's plans and try to put a stop to them.

What could possibly make Spot so shaken up he'll hand over Brooklyn? What could make Jack so shaken he'd give up Manhattan? Only one thing: Race and David have been taken. But where? How? Why? But why do they care so much about them? Well, first we need to go back to the beginning. We need to go on their journey with them. From their first meeting, to working side by side in the strike, to growing closer and falling in love, and all the things in between, dealing with the problems their kinds face in the unforgiving world. But the whole thing is bigger than all of them. This isn't a fight for just Newsies anymore--it's a fight for love, family, friends, rights for all, and the fight for the right to exist in a world like this and the right to tell those stories. Winter. A time of year the newsboys of New York City wish they skip over. It got cold- real cold. Newsies all over would start showing signs of sickness within the first weeks of winter. Not as many people are out on the streets, which means not as many people are there to buy papes. Money gets scarce and it's not like any of them can afford a winter coat. Wintertime is chaotic enough as it is, but when you're a newsboy trying to juggle a forbidden relationship, the death of many friends, and the return of a psychotic family member? Yeah, things can get a little... destructive. Story length: 27,730 ------------------------------ THERE IS A BREAKDOWN OF THE MOVIE VS MUSICAL AT THE VERY END WHERE I JUST DISSECT THE MOVIE AND WHATNOT. IT DOESN'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO ME WHETHER OR NOT YOU READ IT, I JUST WANTED TO PUT IT OUT THERE. DISCLAIMERS: - These characters are not mine, they all belong to Disney (excluding a couple little side characters here and there) - The word 'queer' is used frequently towards the end. While I am fully aware that it is not always used as a slur, I just couldn't bring myself to have one of the boys say the 'f' word. (You know the one) - This is going to be a mix of the 1992 Newsies and the Broadway Newsies, so I apologize in advance if you get a little confused. I just can't decide which is better, but for some characters I can only see them as the 1992 version or the broadway version. - Main difference: The relationship is going to be Jack and Katherine, meaning that neither Sarah nor Denton exist.
