Phan AU: Mutant, and proud. Concept based X-Men but not really a crossover + no characters from X-men included. You can absolutely read this with no prior knowledge of the movies/comics. Sci-fi, powers, adventure and a healthy dose of drama. Random genetic mutations occur, some unnoticeable and others catastrophic. If a mutation proves to be advantageous, then the organism is more likely to survive so the mutation will be passed on. The study of these mutations has been one of the main focal points of medical scientists for years; mostly, or so the public believe, in an attempt to cure or prevent the threats to life caused by these mutations. Genetic diseases, deformity, small sections of coding that increase the risk of some ailment or other or perhaps just undesirable traits. Our grasp of genetics is improving exponentially, and it poses the question: if you could rewrite your DNA sequence from scratch, why settle for blonde hair and blue eyes when you can give yourself wings. Not all mutations are accidental.

A boy raised around religion and the discounts for sin, Phil Lester is definitely not one to go around looking for trouble. With his father being the vicar of their local church, Phil has a lot to live up to and has to keep his reputation high if he's to be accepted. He doesn't do parties or drinking; the thought of sex alone is enough to terrify him. So it's no wonder that when Dan Howell, a boy who embraces the life of parties and rebellious acts, shows up to join the church program, Phil starts having trouble keeping himself sane as he tries to teach Dan the path to God. But, religion isn't the thing on Dans mind and he seems to find himself a new toy to play with. [warning: this does contain violence and mature content (as shown) and there's a lot on the topic of homosexuality and negative views towards it from characters in the story. Phil doesn't have a best friend in his life. That is, until Dan turns up at his school. They become close and Phil finds out that Dan has a twin brother, but hates to talk about him. It's not until Phil comes over to Dan's house that he finds out why.

Troye, the unlucky teenager bestowed with this 'gift', thinks of it as a curse, with good reason. Or at least that's what Troye thinks, considering he's given up on even trying to make it work. He's different, people shun different. People hate different. And it's better to go under the radar, to be nothing, than to be hated. Right? Tyler, on the other hand, has taken a different approach to a similar problem. No, he can't 'read minds', but he does have a part of himself he doesn't want a soul to know about. He's quarterback, every girl's dream guy, an academic mastermind, and he's also gay. He's seen how different kids get treated, hell, he's been the one to treat them that way before. Why on Earth would he ever wish that on himself? No, it's easier to hide, to be someone you're not, than to be hated. Right?

Dan is a dancer, but it's his best kept secret. Moving to a new college results in new friends, new hobbies and a new outlook in life; but what does it really mean to be human? A series of strange and seemingly unconnected events unfold that all seem to link back to Dan's mysterious new boyfriend. etcetc phan with kickthestickz This story carries some warnings, however they're p much all spoilers except non-graphic violence and injury on one occasion, and non-described minor character death.
