Tom has recently been struggling with life, he hasn't been diagnosed but Edd and Matt are concerned that he is depressed. Edd makes him go to therapy and the therapist is Tord. (Tom and Tord don't know each other in this book until they meet.) Tom is an in the closet gay, deep down he knows that but he hopes that a little part of him Can find some attraction towards girls. He spends A LOT of time at the bar where he met a 'friend' who later became his abusive boyfriend. Tom was scared and losing the will to live. Tord is an angel. Being an angel, also means he has a duty. His duty is to protect his assigned human. Tord's assigned human happens to be Tom. Tom is a depressed teenage boy, although he has no reason to be. Tom's life is good, his mother loves him, he has amazing friends, but for some reason he feels so empty. Tom doesn't have a dad, his dad died when he turned 6,but he never really liked his dad, because of the things he did that terrorized his mother, so Tom never thought it was his dad that made him this way, and he was right in a way. Tord had to find out what was missing in Tom's life and make him happy again. After Tord staying with Tom for a bit of a period of time, Tord finds out what Tom's missing by looking at everyone else's lives around him.
