First, the King of Spades doesn't like his son very much because he's getting in the way of his work. And then suddenly, the king is overprotective of him. Since the duke of puzzles takes care of the prince so much, he's had a better connection with him. The king hates this and blames the rule maker for taking his son away. This whole thing spirals into a fit of chaos, that of which the spade prince, Prince Lancer, has to figure out.
