For old readers: I am making a change to Ciel's age and making her older due to how adulty it got haha, so at the start of the story Ciel is 15. A little-known (fictional) fact about 19th century England, if the first born of a noble family is a girl, she is sent to court, to learn the way of a courtier at a very young age. When Vincent and Rachel Phantomhive found out they were going to be parents they were overjoyed, but the child was born a girl. Rather than have their darling daughter taken away to court and risk not having contact with their child for years, they kept her gender a secret.
