Book 3 in Stray Series. I don't know what happened to me that night. I don't know how I, whatever I was now, came to be. Everybody who was there claims to have no knowledge of what really transpired, urging me to remain silent and secretive. I know they're lying to me, but I don't know why. I'm different from those around me, able to do and see and know things that they cannot. I seem to have a knack for being in the right place at the right time, of knowing what to do or say to fix the problem and help those around me. So why do I still feel so alone? Why do I feel so out of place? Why do I feel so hollow and empty? I can never seem to fill the ache in my chest regardless of what I do. I seem capable of helping everyone but myself. I searched, researched, scoured every source and talked with every knowledgeable creature I could find. But even still, no one knew how or why or what I am. Until I found him. -This story has depictions of violence, SA, depression, panic attacks, gore. Deep in the wilderness, far from the noise of roads and the weight of human expectation, Lucia Woods has built a quiet life among the forgotten. In a weathered cabin nestled between trees and mist, she tends to injured wildlife with steady hands and a guarded heart. Known only in passing by the nearby village, Lucia speaks little, trusts less, and has long since stopped expecting the world to offer her kindness. Her solace lies in routine-tea left to steep too long, charcoal sketches of the animals she's saved, and the silent comfort of solitude. But something in the forest is changing. Strange tracks in the forests. A stillness in the trees that feels too intentional. Animals gone missing. And sometimes, when the wind is just right, she swears she isn't alone. Above and beyond that quiet world, Ka'renok watches. A veteran Yautja of gray-honor, cast to walk the border between honor and duty, he has no home but the hunt. Bound by silence and shaped by war, Ka'renok moves through shadow with reverence and precision. He distrusts humans-loud, deceitful creatures who glorify weakness and destroy what they cannot control. But in his path, one quiet human lingers like a flaw in his focus. She should be meaningless. Instead, she unsettles him. Sent to this world on a mission that requires to kill, observation and patience, Ka'renok expects nothing from Earth but complication. What he doesn't expect is Lucia. As their worlds begin to brush-first in glimpses, then in something deeper-they are both pulled into a quiet, dangerous bond neither understands. In a forest hiding more than scars and silence, hunter and healer must decide whether what connects them is worth the cost of being seen.

Shivers ran through her nerves, alarm stiffening her limbs in fright. This was no beast but a predator. A predator with fur.

A duo of up-and-coming performers is relaxing and singing beside a lake. Strumming softly on an old guitar and singing melodies for the ghosts of the forest. Completely unaware of the duo of yautja hunters hides and listens, completely enraptured by their sweet siren song. Unintentionally luring them in closer until there would be no escape.

In a small village, half hidden along a mountainside, Kieren was slinking between shadows. Footsteps sure even with so little moonlight. The softest brush of bare skin against knobbled and far-reaching trees. Not even a whisper of sound from stepping on the coarse dirt beneath his feet. In this world, Drakes were the epitome of power amongst the species. Only making up 10% of the population, humans making up the other 90%. Drakes could be found in the highest positions of power in communities or in positions to protect others (such as guards, watchmen, knights, patrolman). No one questioned this, dragons taking care of their own. A private species with traditions and rules that only dragons were privy to. Making sure none over-reached so that there would always be peace and harmony amongst the dragon territories and between humans. A symbiosis that all worked hard to maintain. Humans were born with vibrant and colorful hair throughout the world. The more rare the color, the more blessings, respect, luck and riches came to them. Fiery red, leafy green, aqua blue. Eyes that matched their brightest feature. Dressing in the same colors or even brighter shades to demonstrate their extravagance, their standing in society. They normally worked side by side with the higher ranking dragons, helping to keep harmony. All Kieren knew was that he would have to remain cloaked, face obscured at all times. The villagers said he was a defect, so they made him their servant. His skin too pale. Form too slight. Eyes not right. An ugly thing where he should be thankful they did not kill him right away. To be grateful for their pity and staying their hand. The worst, they would tell him, was about the coloring of his features; his hair and eyes. It was a color that had never been seen before amongst humans or dragons. *Please read tags! Don't like, don't read, don't leave unhelpful nasty comments.
