Nineteen-year-old Millie tries to portray the perfect life to mask the memories of her past. Walking in on her boyfriend with another woman her freshman year in college threatens that picture of perfection. Twenty-one-year-old Finn never wanted college and never expected to amount to anything, but when his mom's dying wish is for him to get his degree, he has no choice but to pretend it's what he wants too. Millie needs a fake boyfriend to get back at her ex and Finn needs cash to take care of his mom, so they strike a deal that helps them both. But what if Millie's past isn't what she thought? Nearly two years after their out-of-spotlight breakup, Stranger Things alums, Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard, are cast as the leads in a large franchise film but have serious unresolved issues stemming from what seemed on the surface to be a bad breakup, but those closest to them know it was something more. When the tragic realities start bubbling up to the surface, how will Millie be able to handle working in such close quarters with her ex that left her so broken back in 2020? And will Finn be able to find the fault in his actions and set right all his wrongs?

After the events of What We Lost, Finn and Millie continue to help each other come to terms with what happened back in 2020 and with many of their castmates living under the same roof to film season five of Stranger Things, they find friendship and family to be helpful in their healing process. But as filming comes to an end, the young couple find themselves in a situation they hadn't expected. This turn of events highlights much of Millie's un-resolved grief but ultimately may be exactly what they both need to fully work through their past loss and start anew.
