Thala Bostel von Scatterbie ist eine Räuberin. Um genau zu sein ist die die Herrin der Diebe. Sie führt die geschicktesten Räuber des Landes an und jeder Lump und Schuft gehorcht ihrem Befehl. Das genaue Gegenstück dieser schwarzen Seele ist Königin Lucia Fortia vom Smaragdsee. Ihr ist die Diebin ein Dorn im Auge doch kann sie wenig ausrichten. Die Bevölkerung schützt die Diebin und liebt sie mehr als ihre eigene Königin. Als Thala allerdings in Gefangenschaft der Königin gerät kann sie nur entkommen indem sie eine hohe Geisel unfreiwilligerweise mitnimmt. Und mit einer solchen Geisel ist Thalas Leben schlagartig um einiges gefährlicher.
