“Two can only keep a secret only if one of them is dead.” 40 year old Emma McCroy stumbles upon the diary of Spencer McCroy; her 65 year old mother who has been undergoing immense torture for the past 25 years for the murders of ten people. In the summer of ’87, Spencer, a young and daring psychologist, was tried and wrongly, as Emma would put it, charged for the premeditated murders of the ten most intriguing and twisted people Spencer ever encountered in her career. Twenty five years on, Emma maintains her mother’s innocence and never ceased fighting for justice. Discovering the diary pulls Emma into a deep void of dark and dangerous secrets; secrets that will slowly, but steadily rip her world apart into a million pieces. But she knows one thing for sure; the murderer’s name is somewhere in there, engraved in ink. Along with the aid of her mother’s twin brother Brian, Emma embarks on a scandalous journey to prove her mother’s innocence to the rest of the world before it’s too late. Dare if you may, to enter Spencer’s mysterious and shady world. But remember, with every page you turn, there is a price to pay as a psychologist’s diary is like an onion: The more you peel it off, the more it hurts you.

Firstly, it was just the prisoners that were used. Then it became orphans, and even some of the elderly. Now it is everyone in a society where people are struggling to find work. Money is offered to anyone willing to volunteer themselves or their children to take part in scientific trials run by the organisation called Calox. Except no one ever gets the money. No one is ever seen again once they've volunteered for the trials. (This is the first book in the 'Children of Calox' series. 'Flames' is the sequel, and therefore the second book in the series. I plan to write between three and five books in total.)

When they leave for the Brigantes' chief village as a part of a treaty, they realize that they have been living in a bubble of safety and comfort. And that bubble has just popped.
