No meio disso tudo, três agentes da divisão jovem do exército, sendo as últimas a abandonarem seus postos, tem sua cidade completamente tomada por zumbis, tendo que deixar seu lar, e seu pai, para trás. Seguindo as últimas instruções do Professor, elas atravessam o estado na busca de um pequeno vilarejo no interior no Colorado conhecido como "Refúgio", que não foi devastado pelo vírus e criou seu próprio sistema de sobrevivência. Agora, elas terão de se provar úteis para os três irmãos que comandam o lugar se quiserem sobreviver...
