The story is told through the main character, Joel, as he recalls events from his childhood and how he and his brother, Blake, escaped the nightmare of their Mother's drug fuelled abuse. After escaping their abusive home and life of neglect Blake takes on the role of a parent and supports his younger brother through High School but as Joel tries to keep moving forward his past begins to hold him back. As Joel loses focus on his future he resorts to deceitful and aggressive behaviour that begins to put a strain on the brothers close relationship. Do you prefer your magic with one or two sugars? Or maybe with a nip of whisky? Days before their father's 70th Drunkening, brothers Artemis and Oleander Trevellian learn that the price of their usual gift -- two barrels of magic -- has skyrocketed, putting it well beyond their meager budget. Rather than find another present (what else do you get the pirate who has everything?), the two set off on a rollicking adventure across the whole of the Grunnic Isles to discover what's caused the shortage. Without their Da knowing about it, of course. From Sei'ne Heasley and 2017 Watty Award winner Leigh Heasley.

♢ Highest Achieved: #25 in legal, #28 in orchestra, #43 in letting-go, #44 in drowning, #173 in childhood-sweethearts ♢ What would you do if you'd find all you've cherished wiped out on the very day you've stepped on the first step of your estimable ladder to success? Maddened to distraught, Basil Landsborough stands on the edge of dismal Life and sweetness of the salvation of Death. Would he take the fatal step down the forever doom of cold demise, known as Death, or consider giving Life another chance? If he does, would he succeed in doing so or keep suicide as an alternative if things don't work out? (Pardon the typos and little errors, have to sieve them out when I get the time to.) Award-winning author James Douglas Wallace brings together ten sci-fi short stories (flash fiction) in a single volume, each an opportunity to escape into a new reality. While the cover may not scream hard sci-fi with spaceships and lasers, it hints at something different, an almost indescribable existential melancholy shared by all of us. Are we alone in the universe? What's out there? Are we ready for it? Worthy of it? These are the questions explored in this volume. You'll find parallel universes, time travel, quantum entanglement, post-apocalyptic desolation, cloning, benevolent aliens, and alien invasions. And hopefully, they will bring a smile to your face as they have for so many other readers.
