"At some point, Quincy walked in. I wasn’t paying attention until Alex grabbed my arm and pulled me to my feet with everyone else in the room. Here’s the thing about Quincy: he’s huge. Like, could-probably-break-a-brick-with-his-hands huge. Super muscular, hard expression, and eyes that could most likely kill you if you looked at them too long. He looked all of us up and down, then nodded and cleared us to sit. I glanced up at the clock on the wall: 9:00 on the dot. Impressive. A sudden nervousness rose in the pit of my stomach once I saw Commander White come in behind him, her face about as scared as I felt. She was trying to hide it, but it wasn’t working very well at all. Quincy sat down at the head of the table and the Commander handed him a folder stuffed with papers, then stood quietly in the back of the room. It was dead silent for a minute or so, with the exception of Blake smacking his gum obnoxiously loudly. The Admiral wasn’t one to ease into bad news, so what he said right off the bat wasn’t very surprising, 'The universe might not make it this time.'"
