Rayne was only 15 when the ship carrying her and her parents was swallowed by the waves. Washed up on the shore of an island far from home, Rayne finds herself without friends in an unfamiliar world. There are fire-breathing creatures she has never seen. Dragons. One befriends her, and the two form an easy alliance. Their friendship strengthens when a crisis forces dragon and human to work together. When Rayne is well enough to leave, she sets out on the back of the small, calico dragon, her only friend. The two begin their journey across the Archipelago, searching for Rayne's home, but unknownly getting farther away. However, they farther they go, the more they find truths Rayne would rather not know, and enemies she didn't create. After being rescued by people who called themselves Grimborns, Rayne finds herself confused about their true motive. By the time she has recovered, she had decided to join Krom Grimborn in his attempt to rid the Archipelago of his dragon-slaughtering enemies, the Dragon Riders.

What if Hiccup had never shown Berk the truth about dragons? What if he was chased off instead of leaving on his own? Can he survive in the wild with Toothless? Or will he go wild himself?

Berk's only heir is dead - killed by a Night Fury who took his body with it. But they can't wallow in their grief - they're Vikings. So they stand tall and continue on. But then the food runs out, taken by raiding dragons, and Berk, on the verge of death, comes before the infamous Dragon Chief, a man said to have the ability to control dragons. But while Stoick and Valka are trying to live while mourning for their lost son, Hiccup is living freely on a Santuarial island created by an Alpha dragon with his best friend, a dragon, the one who stole him, Toothless. Toothless has always told Hiccup that vikings are cruel, horrible people that kill dragons for the fun of it, and that he should stay as far away from them. But when Hiccup gets caught on a hostile, viking-dwelling island, he doesn't know what to do. The Chief's wife thinks it's unfair to torture a child like this, but when Stoick lays eyes on this boy, he has other plans. Will he and his dragon escape in time? As a baby hiccup was taken away from Berk for 20 years. No one apart from Stoick and Valka know he's missing or possibly dead or so they think. But when Astrid goes for a walk into the woods after a frustrating day maybe just maybe there is a glimmer of hope. But Berk has been receiving mutable attacks from the outcast, who are trying to find Stoick's weakness and take over Berk. When Alvin the leader of the outcast discovers Astrid's little secret maybe they have found something worth everything to Stoick and that may get them their victory.
