"Get off me." I struggle to no avail, trying to get control of my arms, which he easily keeps pinned. "You son of a-" I'm cut off by his hand over my mouth, leaving his other hand to grip both my wrists above my head. "Do you really want to finish that sentence?" He's starting to get irritated, but I'm too angry to care. I nod my head and yell obscenities that are muffled by his hand. I try to bite his hand, but it's pressed so tightly on my mouth that my teeth can't get a grip on anything. I just want to get out of this extremely vulnerable position. He's barely even putting force into his actions, and yet he is so much stronger than me. It's a terrifying thought to realise that you would be helpless if a man wanted to harm you, subjected to his whims just because of biological differences. "Seriously, Mollie, stop being so childish." He removes his hand and wipes it on my shirt. I don't miss how his hand stays on my waist. "Get off me then," I hide my fear behind my anger and hope he doesn't see through it. I think he does, because he teases me with a smile, "What will you do if I don't? You can't exactly do much in this position." His words sink an arrow of terror into my gut. *** Mollie's bus is hijacked by a group of masked men one day when she's on her way home from university. The hostages are taken to a house in the woods where they're ransomed back to their families. All except Mollie. The leader of the masked men has an interest in her, one that seems to have existed before the hijacking, and doesn't want to let her go. It seems that she's been kidnapped for keeps.

He wanted her; She'd always tell -- "I hope that you burn forever in hell." He has her in his grasp; This type of duo was never meant to last. Story excerpt: "You don't know how to shoot a gun." I raised my eyebrows in surprise - that's what he was concerned about? Then, I proceeded to pump the shot gun, my finger resting on the trigger. Aidan seemed a bit taken aback by this revelation and chose to take a retreating step. He eyed me with a small amount of caution from the action that I performed. "Car keys. Phone. Now." "Vie- "My name is Arianna Hopkins...!" I stressed with absolute resolution, and that seemed to shut him up completely. He didn't like that I had denied the name that had had given me - the new life that I was supposed to live with him. I would go back home. I had to.

Alex; Quiet. Loyal. The kind of friend who stays a little too late and listens a little too closely - especially when it comes to Hazel. Hazel, who laughs at his jokes. Hazel, who never pushed him away. Hazel, who trusted him enough to believe he wanted nothing from her. Her marriage is solid. Her life is stable. She never questioned it. Alex just convinced himself she did. His attention becomes comfort. Comfort becomes temptation. Temptation becomes something Hazel never agreed to - a story Alex writes for both of them, twisting every glance, every kindness, into proof she must want him back. And when lines are crossed, Alex tells himself he's giving her what she secretly desired. He calls it love. He calls it fate. But the truth is much uglier. Told through the eyes of a self-proclaimed "nice guy," this is the descent of a man who manipulates his closest friend into the role he wants her to play... and still can't understand why he ends up the monster. A story about obsession, delusion, and the violence of being rewritten by someone who insists he knows you better than you know yourself.

#1 in Thriller /15-05-18/ "I want her", he says in a deep voice, causing me to shiver. His hair and eyes are the same color as the sky at night and his lips are curled up in a mischievous smirk. He reaches out his hand and gently touches my cheek and I take a step back, my eyes full of anger and fear. "Ah, feisty one, aren't you?" I hear him say as he leans in closer, trapping me between the cold wall and his tense body. Copyright © 2014

A set of chess stands at my bedside table, the white row perfectly in line while one of the black knights already moved. I furrow my eyebrows at the wrongdoing but then remind myself of one thing; he doesn't play by the rules. Picking up the small letter in the middle of the checkerboard, I keep the creeping fear at bay and read the four words followed by his signature, surprisingly neatly written. "Prepare to be checkmated - Nick."
