Katara and Zuko have shared many experiences. Still, there are some mutual feelings between them that were left unexplored, ignored and put on hold in order to focus on the bigger picture. They are even technically involved with other people, despite their clear connection to each other. When the start of a new era and Zuko's search for his mother finds them working closer than ever before, those feelings finally start coming to light. Katara is captured at a young age by the Fire Nation. She was brought across the sea to the Fire Nation capital. Only to find the Fire Lord and his family standing right in front of her.

The war ended 6 years ago. It's been two years since Zuko and Katara have seen each other. The Gaang tries to see each other as much as possible, but as time goes on, it gets harder. During a much needed break, the Gaang reunites to celebrate Suki and Sokka's engagement. When an inconvenience joins the group, Katara and Zuko are faced with the decision to either give into their feelings which have been bubbling under the surface for nearly 7 years, or do what their respective nations expect of them. After Ba Sing Se, Zuko has a change of heart and fakes his death. He travels saving Fire Nation villages as the Blue Spirit. On one of his travels he encounters the Painted Lady. The two, both believed to be dead, now work together to save the nation from the inside. Romance blooms but danger causes Katara to run, with two extra packages. 15 years later and an unlikely encounter on Ember Island causes a whole lot of drama especially with an escaped Fire Princess set on revenge.

While spending time together the two develop feelings for one another, but Katara refuses to act on her feelings. Leaving Zuko to wonder if Katara will ever be able to look beyond who he was in his past, and fall in love with who he's become in the present.
