It's the 42nd annual Hunger Games, and eighteen year old Dean Winchester hasn't been reaped once. His fourteen year old brother, Sammy, is terrified that he will be. District 7 is filled with all sorts of different people, from the Hunters, who work with the lumber and make weapons, to the Healers, who study the wilderness and cures for illnesses. In fact, it was a Healer who was reaped last year and won, his name was Castiel Novak. He'd be the mentor this year. Dean remembered him... When it came time for Reaping Day, Dean stood with the older kids, nervous that he'd be chosen, looking over at his anxious brother and stone-cold father. His stomach dropped when the name was called. "Samuel Winchester." He didn't think twice before the words left his mouth: "I volunteer as tribute."

This is sort of a rant for how it feels when you read a particularly sad fic. Spoilers for Twist and Shout and Supernatural 15x18.
