The year is 1895, and famed composer Johann Bergmann is dead, leaving Matilda Brackenborough, a young Englishwoman who wanted nothing more than to study with her longtime idol, in the dust. With only a handful of francs and a book of half-written compositions to her name, Matilda must find her own way in the chaotic world of the Parisian music scene. Along the way, she meets a sword-slinging opera singer, a violinist with a mysterious past, and a new composition teacher who might just be the prime suspect in Bergmann's murder.
