Set in season 7 Em and JJ are married, the team is working on a case involving a serial killer with a young daughter. After solving the case Em and JJ connect with the girl and decide to adopt her.

JJ and Emily have a complicated history. They had feelings for each other, but JJ got scared and ran away, straight into a relationship with Will. Then everything changed when Ian Doyle showed up. Part of Emily's secretive past caught up with her. Emily faced Ian and survived, but no one but Hotch, Strauss, and the Ambassador knew she survived. When she finally returned, she didn't come back the same person she was when she left. JJ didn't come back from her secretive time away the same either. The team thought she was at the State Department. Know one knew she was in the Middle East trying to find terrorists or grieving, thinking Emily died fighting Ian.
