Life as they knew it consisted of living on an international space station since they were born. Earth suffered a massive nuclear explosion decades ago that resulted in the human race evacuating to the only place that was safe, space. Many years had passed and the space station is suffering overpopulation that's resulting in a shortage of food and supplies, thus expiration dates were created. When a baby is born it is given an expiration date, when the time comes the human will have to be killed. However, they have received news that earth is recovering and becoming viable by the day. Expiration dates can also be used as punishment as well. Engaging in any illegal activities can result in shortening your expiration date. Once a year, a lottery is held, everyone on on the station is entered into the lottery and the select few who won the lottery are allowed to remove their expiration date. This year, however, things will go differently...

No I do not know about adoption or a life of a kid from first hand so I may get some things wrong. While not every foster/adopted kid is like North, Asher, or Ollie, it's still to help bring awareness to the situation that is affecting our world.
