When She Lies
She says she's fine, but her eyes tell a story her lips never will.
Her smile falters just before it reaches her eyes. She says "I'm okay," but everything in her-her voice, her posture, her silence-screams otherwise. She hides behind a mask of strength, pretending she doesn't need anyone. But I see her. I see how close she is to falling apart. And every time, it breaks something inside me.
I hate the way she forces that smile, the way she downplays the pain I know is eating her up. I want to be the one she turns to when it gets too heavy, the one who holds her when she's on the verge of breaking.
I want to be her safe place-the one who sees through the lies, who she trusts with her darkness. I want her to know she doesn't have to pretend with me. That she doesn't have to be strong all the time.
But how do I reach her?
How do I make her believe that I'm here, truly here-for every storm, for every silent cry?
How do I become the one she needs...
when she keeps saying she's fine,
when she always lies?
