However as he fights more and more, he finds out stuff about himself that even he didn't know.

Dean gets hurt in a fight. Gets sad, then happy.

This is the plan: Aria will take the test, use her magic, get a good rank, and get accepted into a good school. Her best friend will follow a year later, joining her in school, and they will be together forever. This is what happens: Aria fails the test, has no magic, and gets banished from the city. Kira is left to grieve with no one but a girl she hates and a conspiracy at their feet. Predictably, everything spirals from there.
