. . . Lucy is an orphan. Ajax is unwanted. Eleanor lost everything. Oliver and Edward are alone. London in 1851 is a city that doesn't quite care who you are. It's a city of dreamers, of escapists, of strategists, of artists, of scholars. London is also a city of thieves. Brought together by a semi-abandoned attic and a mysterious charmer at the heart of it all, six teenagers running on stolen coin and careful talent begin building something. Until suddenly, everything is so much bigger than a single attic. And so begins a series of tales--of the relativity of morality, the consequences of repression, and the many shades of love. . . .

In the waning years of the Roman Empire, a disciplined soldier refuses the advances of a strange, captivating woman who lingers too long in the shadows. Spurned, she reveals her true nature-a witch, ancient and wrathful-and curses him to wander the earth as a bloodthirsty creature, neither living nor dead. He will know no rest, no sunlight, no peace, she tells him, until he finds his "salvation"-a woman whose presence alone can return his mortality, though it may cost him everything. Centuries blur into one endless night. Empires rise and fall around him as he becomes a whispered horror, feeding to survive, forgetting what it once meant to feel human. Then, nearly two thousand years later, he dreams-something he has not done in ages. In those dreams appears a young woman in candlelight, her face soft yet unafraid. Elizabeth von Weissenburg, a noblewoman in 1840s Germany, begins to see him too: a crimson-eyed figure standing at the edge of her sleep, watching, never touching, yet always there. Night after night, year after year, their strange connection deepens-his torment easing in her presence, her curiosity slowly eclipsing fear. Determined to reach her, he weaves himself into her world by befriending her older brother, a man drawn to his mystery and quiet intensity. Invited at last to their estate, he crosses the threshold with careful restraint, every instinct warring within him. The moment Elizabeth sees him in waking life, recognition strikes like lightning-the man from her dreams, now standing in her home, very real, and far more dangerous than she ever imagined.

1861. Victoria was queen, Abraham Lincoln was president, and Britain ruled the waves - and most of the planet. Against this backdrop, Aminta finds the past has a longer reach than she realized. She thought England, a world away from the fields of Georgia, would be the key to her freedom. Here, she could go where she wanted, work when and for whom she wanted, and associate with those she wanted. Yet she finds a new set of obstacles: a society that, while outwardly against the evil that flourished in the nation of her birth, was still just as controlling and structured. And is her past truly behind her, or is it simply waiting to return the moment she least expects? *** A lady's companion was a young woman hired by childless older upper-class women in the Victorian era as a "substitute daughter" or chaperone. *** This is my first serious attempt on this site, and this work is mostly to help me develop a writing habit. Constructive criticism is welcome!

Welcome to 1854, Colonial South India. Forging a British Lord's signature is a hanging offense. And faking a two-year betrothal to him....that's a death sentence. But to Suchi, it was just good accounting. In the sweltering, jasmine-scented heat of 1854 Madurai, twenty-year-old Suchi is fighting a losing battle. With a dying father and no male heir, her ancestral Zamindari lands are targeted for seizure under the East India Company's ruthless Doctrine of Lapse. To save her people and secure her elder sister Dhana's future, Suchi commits the ultimate fraud: she claims to be the secret fiancée of the region's most feared, absentee aristocrat, Lord Victor Robinson. The lie is a masterpiece....until a black carriage rolls into her courtyard and the devil himself steps out. Lord Robinson has returned from London, and he knows exactly what she's done. But instead of the gallows, he offers a chilling bargain. He needs an "in" with the local nobility to hunt a deadly smuggling ring, and Suchi is the perfect key. Play the adoring bride-to-be, and live. Refuse, and burn. As the line between hatred and obsession blurs against a backdrop of colonial galas and midnight treason, Suchi realises the greatest threat isn't the British Empire. It's her, falling in love with the man she's supposed to riot against.

This story takes place in the 1850's. It is about a 14 year old girl who live in New York for a while but then her dad up and decides to move to the mountains in Montana and Kallie, the girl, is now 19, and is not happy about this. In the mountains, Kallie meets a beautiful horse and it leads to romance, fights, and maybe a little love. ***** This story was ment to be a short story but became longer than I thought it would. It is in parts and not chapters because if I put it all into one part the part would be over 1,000 words long and I didn't want to do it that way so, it is just parts but no chapters.

Daisy Armstrong had just come to the capital for her first public appearance, according to her mother's wish, some sight-seeing, according to her wish, and a sketched picture of Prince Richard, according to her sister's wish. For the last wish to be fulfilled though, she needed to meet the prince. The 'how' was still sketchy... until the prince himself came to her. Prince Richard only wanted to use the red-haired little Miss to win over his love, that was all. He never bargained for his cool reserve to be broken, his reputation to be slashed, or his heart to be stolen. ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ Excerpt: "I am not your betrothed, Your Highness." She retorted in frustration. "Alright, if you wish for me to stay unmarried, I'll become an old maid and commit to a nunnery. Will that be enough to make you leave me in peace and marry Juliet?" He held out his hand to her. Thinking he wanted her to hand back his coat, she picked it up and extended it to him. He swang her out of her seat. Her startled cry came when she realised her face was pressed against a wall that held his musky scent and she couldn't free herself from the clasp at her nape try as she did. Then suddenly, she could breathe freely again. She stared in bewilderment at the handsome face hovering close to hers. Before she could discern his intention, she felt his lips on hers. The kiss wasn't like the first one they shared. She felt his power and authority and his ruthlessness in the way he possessed her. She grew frightened, even so, her body began to melt under his touch. Down in the pit of her stomach, she had the unsettling feeling he was teaching her a lesson. He stopped kissing her and nudged her chin up. "No nunnery will open its doors for you if you're not a virgin. I'll take the option of being a nun from you which will leave you with only one choice; marry me. Your father will have it no other way if I tell him about what we're about
