At the end of the third year of high school, students get their career Assignments to one of seven career Fields. Only a select few students get Assigned to the eighth and most prestigious Field, that of Steward. They are to serve the best society has to offer, working as their attendants. Five years into her Assignment as a Steward, Emma Lehman stops taking her daily pill and realizes her Field is not all that it was promised to be. After running away and stumbling into the feet of a familiar face, she and her former classmate, Theodore Kallin, set out to confront the reasoning for Emma's Assignment. Nothing should be taken at face value as individual motivations and the truths she's been told are constantly challenged for Emma.
