It's difficult to be 21, and confused
You do not know which war is worth fighting for
And which to single out
You're like a character inserted somewhere in the middle
Of a major motion picture
Trying to catch up with the story line, seeing through faces
Everybody fighting for the center stage, the camera flashes
And you find yourself lost in a crowd of spectators
Waiting for a riot to arise
For some pretty face to crumble down to dust
One after the other
Freedom is good until it hits you hard on the face
God knows how much I wanted to build my life
But what's the use of a compass
If you've lost all sense of direction
I've spent so much of my time wondering
If I'll ever get there
And I don't even know where there is
I become so restless most of the nights
Looking for something I do not know what
And if I give so much thought to my current state
I might lose myself over insanity
It's difficult to put your human suit
In front of people who look down on you
And your sand castle dreams
It's difficult to submerge yourself
In a desperate search
For anything that could possibly keep the hollowness
At arm's length
It's difficult to stay up all night
Patiently translating the language of your heart
Word by word, the letters smeared and splattered on paper
Curves of ink invading the empty spaces
But reducing in size, the population of the thoughts
Circling around your head
It's difficult to be 21, and anxious
Wondering if you'll ever get things figured out
It's difficult to be 21, and stressing over
The reason why you can't keep your shit together
It's difficult to be 21, and learning to accept your pace
It's difficult to be 21, and chasing the clock
It's difficult to be 21, and confused.
