This novella was written during the 2021 International 3-Day Novel Contest; it was a tough writing year, and I abandoned my first idea halfway through the weekend to write this. I submitted it as The Dirty Magazine, but a better title is The Feminist and the Dirty Magazine. Its inspiration is the time I found an adult magazine in the garbage on the walk to school. I was 5. It caused a bit of a kerfuffle in the schoolyard. Note: This is an unedited 3-Day Novel. There are typos galore and plenty of unfinished thoughts, and possibly even characters whose names change unexpectedly. This is all a part of its many charms! Another note: The cover image and all chapter illustrations were AI-generated by me and midjourney.

In the summer of 1992, there was a serial killer on the loose in the big city. Lucky for Kerry, she got to escape to her favourite place on earth, Camp Big Spirit, where she was head of nature programming. But did trouble follow her to paradise? First, Kerry spotted a mysterious man and his dog living in the woods. Then a young girl went missing from a nearby campground. When Camp Big Spirit was suddenly evacuated for a "public safety" issue, it seemed certain that danger was their midst. In the present day, Kerry visits the remains of Camp Big Spirit and relives her final summer there: the changes big and small, the relationships that mattered most, and the end of the best years of her life. This novel was written for the 2020 International 3-Day Novel Contest. It appears here as written during those 72 hours and contains typos, dropped plot threads and many inconsistencies. Those things are part of its many charms. A note on the art: The cover art and all accompanying illustrations (coming soon) are AI generated by me and midjourney.

As a shy child, Lawrence lives for his extensive and well-cared for toy collection. But then these toys begin to disappear. When he finds out why, it leads to the end of his joy and sense of security, and he retreats even further into himself. Bonnie is surprised one day after school by the appearance in her home of an elderly (and previously unknown to her) relative, her Great-grandmother Judith. It turns out that Judith is a compulsive shoplifter, and soon the family apartment is filled to the ceiling with trinkets and baubles. It's a strange life, but Bonnie loves it. Then it all ends in one terrible week, and Bonnie loses everything. Somehow Lawrence and Bonnie find each other, and some small bit of happiness, while struggling to overcome their traumatic pasts. This novel was written for the 2010 International 3-Day Novel Contest. It appears here pretty much as written during those 72 hours and contains typos, dropped plot threads and many inconsistencies. Those things are part of its many charms! A note: the cover and chapter art was AI generated by me and midjourney.
