It’s the first day of school in a new town for Jack O’Rourke and she’s a bit nervous. Jack’s never been the new kid before and she’s not exactly sure how she’s supposed to act. Thankfully, Jack’s inner confidence and “never-failing” moral compass leads her to make friends –and ENEMIES – all on the first day! Now with a trio of mean girls gunning for her, and a creepy, black sedan watching her house, well it’s a bit much for a fourteen-year old to take! But Jack does her best to get back to a normal life by throwing herself into her new friends, the girls’ soccer team and planning the art show fundraiser that she, somehow, came to be in charge of. But when the money raised from the fundraiser ends up missing and is later found in Jack’s locker – what’s a girl to do? Jack is seriously thinking about throwing in the towel and moving to Timbuktu, but she quickly remembers who she is and makes a plan to do what Jack O’Rourke does best: she FIGHTS BACK! When Jack’s done with those mean girls everyone at Reading Junior High will definitely know what kind of girl Jack really is!

Fourteen-year-old Jack O’Rourke has finally started to settled down in her new life in Reading, Colorado. She's doing well in school, playing soccer, loving her art classes and with her two best friends, Wren and Zander, and boyfriend Ayden by her side, she's handling things pretty well. Now, with just a few days until Halloween and the ultimate community Halloween Party on the horizon, Jack and her friends are planning a night to remember. But, there’s a problem: a group of vandals have been trashing homes and businesses and the Mayor has threatened to cancel all Halloween activities if the perpetrators aren’t caught – ASAP! In order to save Halloween for the entire town, Jack and her friends have to figure out who's behind the vandalism, quick and in a hurry too, because the black sedan that was stalking her family is still around and this time, they’ve made their presence known. All this and her first ever one-on-one date? Geez! What's a girl to do? Well, for Jack it means asking the hard questions and sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong. But, really . . . what could possibly go wrong?
