"Somethings wrong, Eddie. This isn't Buck," she whispered and Eddie closed his eyes, his hand tightening on his cup. "I know. But he won't talk to me, about anything. He hasn't even texted me a 2am random fact in weeks," he said and Hen made a small noise. "Hen, you knew Tommy before," he said slowly, Hen's shoulders tightening. "I did. And that's why Karen and I gave him the shovel talk at the award ceremony, I know what he's like," she said and Eddie finally looked up. ~~~~~~~ Buck hasn't been Buck in weeks. Hen and Eddie are worried, so they go to check on him.

"Damn, and I thought I had heart eyes for my wife." She chuckles, it's kind of gross sounding, with her nose stopped up from crying but her words bring him to a complete and utter stop. Freezing there, in the middle of a crowd and suddenly it all feels like too much. The only thing he can choke out is a faint, "what?" The woman doesn't seem to notice, but she also hasn't taken her gaze away from where Buck went, "Yeah dude, he's super pretty too, got a nice one and I like girls, I wish I could bulk up like that." Or: Buck makes a playlist, introduces Eddie to new music that leads him to some realizations. Oh and they go see Orville Peck in concert

Her hand waves, her bracelets gleaming off of what is left of their daylight. "Oh nothing guero." But she leans a little looking at the flowers, "Just coming to see what you've done with those sad flores." Buck perks, "Oh! Hitting the pavement hard enough to bruise the muscles in his back will never compare to opening his eyes and seeing nothing in color as he blinks the pouring rain out of his eyes. The residing pain made his arm shake from feeling the lightning go through his skin. He could feel the vibrations and the ache in his head. His helmet was gone, and he grabbed it more out of reflex than anything else, knowing without a doubt that he needs it. Muscle memory telling him so. But none of it compares to looking up and seeing Buck hanging there and only seeing him in black and white. The night sky behind him seems even darker, and his entire world feels like it's halting. Freezing as the rain hits his face, but it's as though he doesn't even feel it. Eddie thinks that he may not feel anything at all.

"Chris-" Buck starts but this time he is interrupted. "No! We already missed the museum last week and dad said you were busy, but you've never missed before! And- and I- did I do something wrong?" Chris's voice tapers off and Buck can feel the tears forming in his eyes. "No.. no you didn't do anything wrong I promise." "So then why can't we go to the zoo?" Chris asks. Buck bites his lip, chewing on the poor thing before he makes a decision, one that might come back and bite him in the ass later but what else could he possibly have to lose? Chris is still reaching out, Chris misses him. Chris is sad. It's the easiest choice he's made in weeks. "You know what-" Bucks breathing is a little fast, he feels like he's going to pass out or away he doesn't know, "I'm coming to get you."

Eddie turns his gaze over to Buck, he doesn't look upset. It's more of an unsure type of look. Eddie doesn't ever want to make Buck feel that way, it hurts his chest just seeing it there. So he swallows and speaks, "You were upset." He states and Buck tilts his head at him, and pulls his bottom lip into his mouth. "You came all of the way back to LA, with Chris and all your stuff because I was sad?" Buck questions and oh, that's definitely what he did. That's actually exactly what he did. "Yeah." Eddie exhales and Bucks breathing hitches but he keeps talking, "I- I also kind of want to punch Tommy in the mouth." - Or Buck accidentally calls Eddie while he's at the bar with Tommy and Buck doesn't take the man home, and their conversation happens in the bar, instead of the morning after.

Buck points a shaking finger at him, barely paying attention to anything around him, "You're supposed to be his friend, what this wrong with you!" "Look just-" Bucks barely listening to Tommy as he tries to talk again "Sweetheart." Eddie's voice calls out and Buck whips around and sees him standing there, looking exhausted in clothes that definitely are from yesterday and his face crumples.

Buck doesn't believe he was ever meant to hear the words. He did though, and he wishes that he could change that fact. Because when he was hearing them, he felt like his chest was caving in, as if Eddie had physically hit him in the chest instead of feeding the potential renter what they wanted to hear. "No ties here, everything that matters is in Texas." It rings in his ears over and over again. His mind is taunting him, not allowing him to just let it go. Buck feels childish, he feels exhausting. It's ridiculous and he's even aware of it, and he thinks that being aware of it makes it so much worse. But then Chris calls Buck and says he wants to come stay with Buck. So those words get put on the back burner.

Bucks face flushes before he can stop it and her mouth purses like she's trying to not smile. Because he may not remember that night at all, but his body sure did. The ache he felt when he woke up that morning, the marks on his body. That he remembers because it was a visible obvious thing. "Probably two months ago?" He estimates, and she nods again. "Alright Buck, well we looked through all your tests." And Buck suddenly knows exactly what's wrong with him. "Congratulations, you're pregnant." Pregnant. "Holy shit," Buck exhales shakily and she comes forward, patting his arm in a motherly fashion and the touch is grounding. Even as he feels like crying, the comfort helps.

They're habits, ingrained into the man's brain so deeply that he doesn't even think that Buck himself realizes he's doing it. He's peeling garlic, not even aware of Eddie in the room yet, humming to himself when Eddie hears it, "Let me take your coat, please." To the garlic. Buck decided to leave on a rainy day. The drops of water landing on his windshield calmed him down, making the choice seem less difficult. He packed up his apartment over the past month, not rushing it, only doing so when he had the free time. But Buck had a lot of free time. So his deal with himself hadn't worked out. - Maddie had helped him pack. She was the first and only one that knew what he was doing, and why he needed to do it. The lawsuit, while a lot, he didn't think it was a mistake. Not the lawsuit itself, but his actions with the lawyer to cause all of the issues within the people he called his family. The ones that didn't talk to him anymore. None of them, except for Hen at least, still talked to him a little bit at the station. But other than that he was completely iced out. Maddie only came when he'd told her he was leaving, a voicemail message because she hadn't answered her phone.
