It was a bit after Maruki's Palace, after reality was fixed- after they returned to the reality where Akechi had died. But what if he was still alive and well without any of them knowing? But, the chances are comparatively low, and by low- I mean basically impossible for him to be alive, right? No, I'm overthinking it, we watched him die, and now that reality has been fixed, he's dead.

After defeating Shido and Maruki, Akechi and Akira were left adrift and broken from their experiences. In different ways and needing different repairing, good thing they have each other and enough love and patience to do exactly that. Here's a nice manual on how to fix one Goro Akechi and heal one Akira Kurusu.
