Celest Iris Eloise "Elli" Miller has always been at the top of her game-academically and athletically. But no matter how hard she tried, there was one person who always seemed to outdo her: River Joseph "Ridge" Collins, her childhood rival. They've been neighbors for as long as they can remember, always competing with each other in everything. Ridge's natural talent and wealth made him a constant threat in their rivalry. He always won, whether it was in school, sports, or anything else they went head-to-head on.
Elli may not be poor, but her family doesn't have the same resources as Ridge's. Despite that, she's never let it stop her from trying to be the best. But underneath their fierce rivalry, Elli has always been drawn to Ridge in ways she didn't understand.
When Elli was younger, she developed a crush on Lucas Lee, a boy who had recently moved into the neighborhood. They spent hours together, sharing dreams and laughter, but just as quickly as he came into her life, Lucas moved away, leaving Elli heartbroken. She buried her feelings for him, but never truly forgot about him.
Now, in their senior year of high school, Lucas returns, and the old spark between him and Elli is reignited. As they reconnect, Elli begins to realize how much she missed him. But Ridge has changed too. He finally admits his feelings for Elli, and their rivalry shifts into something more personal.
With Ridge's jealousy growing as Elli and Lucas spend more time together, Elli finds herself caught between the boy from her past and the boy who has always been there. Can she choose between the boy she once loved and the one who's always been by her side, especially when their worlds are so different?
