My name is ironic. Inspired by the boy who flew too close to the sun, a name attached to ambition and passion. My parents were hoping I would do something great, not knowing they were creating the ultimate irony, birthing a boy who was uninspired and believed in taking life as it came. But this isn't my story. No. This is about my sister, the main character of my life, the golden girl who burned so bright, blackout sunglasses weren't enough to look at her. This is her life, her memoirs, through my eyes. Because if you're related to Bea Rhodes, you're bound to be a side character forever.

SHORT DESCRIPTION San Diego, 2014. Jamie is neurodivergent, in an open relationship, and hopelessly drawn to the one person she shouldn't want-her best friend. With Jason away in Cuba and her boundaries blurring, Jamie must face the messy realities of desire, identity, and love without rules. Set across San Diego, Havana, and Medellín, this story explores what happens when love refuses to stay in its box. LONG DESCRIPTION Set primarily in San Diego, 2014-a city that feels as alive and complicated as Jamie herself-this is the story of a neurodivergent woman trying to make sense of her restless mind through the systems she builds to keep it steady. With Baja California just down the coast and scenes unfolding years later in Medellín, Colombia, 2025, the novel moves fluidly across time and place, mirroring Jamie's own non-linear process of understanding. Jamie is in an open relationship with Jason, who is living temporarily in Cuba, navigating his own path abroad (or getting followed by chickens and dogs with souls). Back home, Jamie finds herself wrestling with a growing crush on her best friend, Nadia-a pursuit that everyone, including Jamie, knows will not end well (or, leave a permanent mark). At its core, this is a story about the messy realities of love, desire, and identity. It's about what happens when the boundaries we set-between partners, between friends, even between parts of ourselves-start to dissolve. With clarity, humor, and emotional nuance, this novel explores what it means to live authentically in a world that rarely makes space for difference.
