Riley doesn't remember the last time someone asked if she was okay. Not really asked. Not in the way that meant they were going to stay for the answer. She is seventeen years old and she has already learned the most important lesson this town has to offer - that people leave. They leave with promises folded neatly in their pockets, with good intentions they fully mean at the time, with duffel bags and bus tickets and fifteen days that turn into three years without a single word. They leave, and the ones left behind learn to stop waiting by the window. They learn to stop setting an extra plate. They learn to breathe around the absence until the absence just becomes the air. Riley works the late shift. She carries drinks to tables without being asked twice. She doesn't flinch at loud voices anymore. She doesn't cry at things that used to make her cry. She has become very good at being invisible in a room full of people - and even better at being invisible to herself. This is not the life she imagined. But it is the life she has. And she has made her peace with it, quietly, the way you make peace with things you never had a choice about. She is not waiting for anyone anymore. She stopped doing that a long time ago. Until the night a familiar face walks through the door - and three brothers who left her behind must now face what their absence built. Because blood doesn't forget. And neither does Riley.

Adrift Among Life's Clouds of Wonder Adrift we search alone as ever By james a. galgano Time lies where it lives within this empty soul never to find. What dreams will never be within such lost foolish mind? Forever haunted from dawn until night as if worried soul impolite Driven by grandeur within whose hopes one often will never incline. Upon every hill undaunted we seek distance above by no design Drawn in anguish or by words best left unread or unwritten while fed By a hunger now forever unfed by a distant hope well written but never read Here is where such wayward wander lingers beyond unwritten page so inclines. As if by chance one day words foolishly written were unread once upon a time Yet who am I or we never met though this be wondrous dream if ever come true Alas we are forever bereft by such wandering lies upon life's long lost avenues © 9 mins ago, James a. Galgano rhyme

Sad poetry I write when I need to vent about something. I share it in hopes of someone being able to relate to what I write and maybe it will help them. I feel this part of my life has concluded and a similar yet new ongoing poetry collection will be made in place of this one's end.

Adrift upon endless wander By james a. galgano This is but some dark of night overcast like clouds upon unknown sea. Adrift in impossible dreams never come true searching for guiding light. Forever to lead us through endless tunnel of time where we often discontented Linger like prisoner's captive aboard boat lost upon some nautical mile undefined Seeking some comfort within in elusive destiny our dreams forever seek Though leery often lost searching forever some port of call to eternally be. Welcomed upon whose lips to comfort like sacrament we long to fine. Lost alone we cling to our every dream upon this lifeboat now confined. Left to wander beneath every star above to guide our journey still. We remain within our endless hopes as well as our free will. We search each shadow longing for soon some accompanying radiance above. To carry us to our destiny we now forever seek a harbor we know not of

Adrift in the endless expanse of space, humanity's last great civilization ship, the Indiana, stumbles upon a beacon that renews hope for the wanderers. Until they open it of course. This little story became the origin story to a novel that I have been working on for a while. It's intended for a Sci-Fi contest and is under 1k words. Please leave comments/feedback!

Adrift in wander By james a. galgano Here an endless trail of bleached bones lead of into horizons by design Often traced by perplexed face peering off into where sunset bends With no clear destination ever in clear sight one often waits for a sign Drawn within passing clouds or upon unchartered sea who's current blends. Into each twist and turn of inclement wave gathering strength yet quickly subsides Upon bated breath fishing for lost souls adrift as we often find ourselves to be In endless search for distant rainbow's bend well beyond all apparent light There darkness gathers to pretend to discover a guiding star above shining bright. Leading us to some fateful destination we never imagined beyond wildest dreams. Hoping for some welcoming port or friendly harbor to welcome our entry so serene.
