Book Two of The Saint Chronicles. (So if you haven't read Solitude yet, please do so before reading this. Thanks.) Two weeks after the battle at the LAX Airport, the Saint Shields have cut off all outsiders, and the Los Lobos pack are nearly broken. Mean while Jake Erikson finds himself struggling with normality back in his life. Going back to school and not having to b whisked away to another fight. All the while there hasn't been a peep from vampire or werewolf.
Not to say he's having an easy life however, as his new teacher Cynthia works Jake, Will, and Issac until they literally can't stand. And with Lance's estranged brother Josh prowling the streets of LA, the former Saint moves back into the church believing he can protect his friends.
All around him, Jake can tell that everyone is on edge since Stark's disappearance. And with all communication with the Saint Shields cut off from him, Jake grows increasingly restless not knowing what's going on in the world. But once the Saints receive an ominous distress call coming from Jake's newest partner Andrew McCarthy, Jake is sent on his first ever Guardian assignment.
Little does he know, he's being thrown in the middle of an increasingly violent war between the dark elves and vampires. While in the midst of everything Jake discovers a powerful vampire is the one who started this war. With all of his friends either gone or forbidden from helping him, Jake must stand against the powerful vampire alone. All while maintaining a very uneasy truce between the dark elves, who are hell bent on killing someone close to Jake.
