This is the story of Laila's journey-a journey of reconciling the traditions of her Afghan roots with the fast-paced, often misunderstood world of the West. It's a story of learning to navigate between two cultures, sometimes finding comfort in one, sometimes longing for the other, but always searching for where she truly belonged.

"I'm sure you mom couldn't contain her excitement and told you already about the fixed date of your engagement." My father announced. My mother let out a snort. He glanced at her, but shook his head and returned his full attention back on me. "I'm glad I haven't received any disrespectful behaviour from you my child" He continued. Yet, I thought and kept holding his gaze. "Raheem, take her phone and put Elaf's number in, as well as the rest of her in-laws." He told Raheem. I glanced confused at my mother and Sahar. Raheem snatched my phone from my grib and typed something on it before placing it back on the dining table. I kept my eyes at dad. "It would be good if you got along with youre in laws before marriage, they have a big family, namekhuda" He said and chuckled dryly. I couldn't take the tone of his voice, where is my father? Was this what money and material wealth did to people in the twentieth century? I dropped my gaze back to the floor. What happened to the conversative muslim family?

Syed and Gayatri didn't mean to fall in love. But love happens when you least expect it. It creeps up suddenly when someone needs attention, care, conversation, laughter and maybe even intimacy. Love doesn't look at logic, or at backgrounds and least of all, religion.

Confined in her house, barely knowing about the world outside her room. She wasn't allowed to be seen or heard, she lived 18 years of her life in hell. But then she was told to escape, for freedom from the pathetic inhuman creatures, including her baba who lived in a small village in the mountains. What is escape? For me escape means breaking free from toxic mentalities, fears and harsh realities.

“There are things in life I’ve learned I cannot change: I am an orphan. I grew up in poverty, poverty of the most wretched kind. I shall never forget the fear, the deprivation, the sense of hopelessness. At a young age, I witnessed the horrors of this world; etched in my memory are gruesome, macabre images, images that I cannot erase. For as long as I live, they will always be there—that I know.” These are the words of Ali Iqbal, orphaned at age five, forced to flee his homeland at age nine, abandoned by his foster parents at age eleven. Now happily married and living in America, one night he receives a phone call that throws his world into utter disarray. He must go back to the place of his childhood, to rescue his friend Ahmet—a friend he owes his life to.

Afghanistan is the land of heroes and warriors who have shown their bravery through battles and love. Over years, the stories have been passed from generation to generation. Therefore, the stories are more than historical reports. you will notice exaggeration and imagination that have changed these historical stories into legends. The stories are steeped in emotion. One wonders why there are so many passionate love stories rooted in actual places in Afghanistan. treachery and revenge, murder and hate are constant themes of these legends. The stories in this collection are partially historical and partially legendary; some parts are true, some are not. Come and fall in love.
