But the prophecy he receives chills him to the bone: if the dead cannot reclaim his bride, the living will be taken in her place. Across the kingdom, Princess Nonhlanhla Maluleke is suffocating under duty and expectation. Her brother's wedding should be a day of celebration, but to her it feels like the tightening of chains she cannot escape. When fate forces Mulalo and Nonhlanhla into each other's path, they discover their lives and hearts are already entangled by something far greater than themselves. Bound by prophecy, torn between loyalty and forbidden love, they must decide whether to defy the will of the dead... or surrender to it. In a kingdom where love is dangerous, duty is a curse, and the past refuses to stay buried, can the second princess carve out a destiny of her own?

It is the beginning of the 18th century in East Africa, and just living past 5 years is something to celebrate. Zalika is looking forward to the naming ceremony, where she will get her adult name and be presented to the people with a name of her own. Her father and most of the village men had been lured away by a ruse. The riders came from the south with skin so light she thought they might be ghosts. Their speech sounded hard and brittle to her. When her father returned, the raiders were gone, the village was burning, and only the youngest of his children remained, her world shattered. Zalika could not have imagined there was anything left to take from her until her father's grief drove him to something that could not be undone and would take what remained of her childhood, her future, and her humanity. What happens when the Phoenix does not want to be reborn? Zalika, changed by magic intended to bring her mother back from the dead, is left to find out. This is a fantasy, but I have worked to get the history correct with some creative license to tell the story. About this time, the Dutch Africans conducted their last raid up into what is now Kenya. The War of Spanish Succession is feeding the golden age of piracy. By the end of the story, that war will end, and the Spanish Inquisition will begin. My characters have no important role in any of these, but they must live with the opportunities and consequences of a war that touched most of the world. There are no graphic descriptions of sex anywhere in this story. This is an adventure story and includes violence and cruelty. This was written without AI. I do use computer proofreading tools that use AI. I don't know of any that don't use AI.

As the casket sank into the earth, a chilling scream pierced the air-sharp and raw, echoing my own past cries that had once gone unheard by those around me. I glanced at the mourners cloaked in sorrowful expressions; their feigned grief made me want to roll my eyes. Did they truly love this man? My gaze drifted to my mother-in-law, her glare like daggers aimed straight at my heart. I held her gaze defiantly; she could wait an eternity for tears that would never fall for her wretched son. If tears were to be shed, they would only be for myself-my own loss in this twisted charade. _______________ All copyrights reserved @HleWritings❤💙 Under no circumstances should this book be copied or taken without the permission of the Author herself . When the All-Consuming Darkness descends as a cataclysmic wave across the realms, reality itself fractures. Nature screams in terror as animals go mad with primal dread. The fundamental forces-Order and Chaos, Light and Life-bend and strain under the weight of this apocalypse. Even the ancient concepts of balance that govern existence begin to fail. The Lords of Order themselves cannot stand against this darkness. They require something new, something forged in desperation. Across the fractured realms-each inspired by the rich traditions of Earth's continents-heroes are chosen, tested, and broken down only to be reforged. From African tribal kingdoms where spirits walk alongside the living, to the frozen North where Windigo beasts stalk and shapeshifters prowl, to Eastern lands of honor and discipline, to Southern desert realms where sand spirits whisper ancient secrets, to European territories where old gods still hold sway-each realm contributes its champions. These heroes must be perfected through trial and suffering. They must embody the strength, wisdom, and power to face what even cosmic entities cannot. Their forging will require them to embrace practices both sacred and terrible: ritual cannibalism to preserve ancestral knowledge, communion with primal beast spirits, pacts with entities of chaos, and the sacrifice of their very humanity. This is epic dark fantasy woven from the mythologies, spiritual practices, and cultural traditions that shaped our world-African tribal cosmology, Inuit and Native American legends, Asian philosophical traditions, European folklore, and Middle Eastern mysticism-all converging as the multiverse screams its death rattle. The old world is dying. What rises from its grave remains to be seen.
