She waited for him. In silence. In storms. In rooms where love never answered back. She cried quietly. Wore shame like perfume, hoping it would make her worthy. Then one morning, she stood. And she left. For good. He told himself, "She'll never leave. No matter what I do, she'll stay." He saw how his family treated her- cold shoulders, cruel eyes, silent rejection. But he didn't stop it. "She loves me," he thought. "She'll take it." So he waited for her return. But the woman he married no longer existed. She died the day she chose herself. "In my next life," she whispered, "I will not wait for someone to love me. I will love myself first."

Being a keen traveler, who documents the lives of women encountered, visiting Beirut in Lebanon last year was an eye-opener. Over 250,000 African and South East Asian women, are employed in the country as domestic maids. They have no employment or legal protection and instead are governed by their employers, under the kafala system. This lead them to be strictly controlled by employers, who often treat them harshly and they are exposed to physical and psychological abuse, in more extreme cases, sexual violence, torture and murder. The following are based on my observations while in Beirut.

Imani is a very busy girl. She is always dealing with and stressing about some kind of issue in her life 24/7. The constant colorism, texturism, misogynoir, and religious mockery she got from people at her school; having to maintain high grades, healthy friendships, and her job; having to take care of the house by herself many days due to her parents' long work hours and so many more worries for her. As if all her 99 personal, emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical problems aren't enough, they are soon to become 100 problems after she begins to catch feelings for her athletic, smart, kind, highly-wanted friend, Beau. DISCLAIMER: I do not own any of the songs used in this book that are "written" by the characters.

Munachi Adebola is everything Nigerian society praises brilliant, disciplined, quiet. When a revered mentor takes special interest in her, it looks like favour. Opportunity. Grace. But some doors open into traps. As silence promises protection and truth threatens ruin, Munachi must decide what survival really costs and whether a woman's voice can outlive the systems built to bury it. This is not a story about dying. It is about what happens when a woman lives after her future is taken. Content Warning This story explores themes of power imbalance, manipulation, gender inequality, and emotional trauma. Readers should be aware that while the narrative avoids graphic detail, it addresses sensitive issues of exploitation and resilience. It is ultimately a story of survival, strength, and reclaiming voice.

Wangu wa Makeri is a story inspired by the life of Wangu wa Makeri (1856-1915), the first and only female chief among the Agĩkũyũ people during British colonial rule in Kenya. The narrative blends history, oral tradition, and cultural themes to explore gender, leadership, and power. The book portrays Wangu as a strong, ambitious, and intelligent woman who rose to leadership in a time when authority was traditionally reserved for men. She became a chief under the colonial system, ruling with firmness and authority, earning both admiration and criticism. Her leadership is shown as groundbreaking but also controversial-while she embodied courage and challenged patriarchal norms, her reign was marked by tensions with both men and women in the community. Eventually, her downfall came after scandal and resistance from elders, yet her legacy lived on as a symbol of defiance and female strength.
