Scarlett Thompson stood in front of an audience of seven men and one woman. She was the Senior Vice President of AA National Bank and it was her fiftieth birthday and they were executives who answered to her. However, there wasn't one person who called that morning to say happy birthday or I love you Scarlett. Her mother had passed away three years earlier and she had never known her father. There were also no children because her life had been devoted to her education and her climb up the corporate ladder, breaking glass ceilings. She could hear the chatter in the room and see the remains of the designer cake they had bought for her and the half-empty glasses of champagne and the glittery gift boxes, but she felt bereft. She had no love and for the past five years, no lovers. Her bank account was full and her home and car paid for, but there was no one to snuggle against at night and no one to make her a cup of hot tea and finally, she knew she wanted that. Glancing down at one of the envelopes she had been given, a small smile appeared on her face. Her friend Kathy had given a gift certificate to the online dating service, Ageless Love Exists for men and women over the age of twenty. Using an online service was out of character for her, but damned it being in character wasn't working and something had to give. She would not reach her forty-first birthday without a man. It wasn't going to happen.
