Kyōjurō however cannot feel remorse for this demon and continues to fight till his final breaths never to know where that innkeeper disappeared to or know why that demon looked so sad when Kyōjurōs life was cut short, why had he begged for Kyōjurō to live? Seitdem Rengoku gegen Akaza kämpfte und über ihn siegte bekam der Pinkschopf den Mann nicht mehr aus dem Kopf, er fing an ihn zu verfolgen. Er wollte diesen Adrenalin schub während des Kampfes erneut spüren. Es fing mit einer kleinen schwärmerei an, doch wurde schnell zu einer einseitigen Liebe... "KYOJURO! ICH HABE AUF DICH GEWARTET!" rief Akaza überglücklich und rannte auf die Flammensäule zu um ihn in ein Gespräch zu verwickeln. Rengoku steckte sein Katana in den Gürtel und seufzte wütend, "Akaza! Wenn du mich schon tag und nacht belästigst dann wenigstens nicht vor den Kindern!" Er zeigte auf Tanjiro und seine zwei Freunde die ihn begleiteten. "Ach, die paar kinder!" Akaza verrollte die Augen, wären sie Kyojuro nicht wichtig gewesen hätte er sie schon längst umgebracht. "Und hör auf deine Kameraden wegen mir ab zu schlachten!" die Flammensäule blinzelte wütend und sah zu wie Akaza seine Blutige Faust zurück zog und sie ableckte, neben ihm fiel ein toter Körper zu boden. "Ich finde es ja gut das die Dämonen ausgelöscht werden, aber das ist meine Aufgabe!"

Kyojuro fails in a way unseen before in the entire history of the Corps. So grievous is his failure that the Corps as a whole decide to strip him of the rank of Hashira and reassign him to duty as a Kakushi. What follows is the ruination of his life by his own hand. "Alright... just a sip..." Akaza trailed off, gaze fixed on the blue liquid once more. His eyes rolled heavenward before he raised the vial - and accidentally gulped the entire contents... "Uh-oh..." His voice turned dry: "Not as sweet as it smells..." Akaza's head spun violently as he stumbled, gagging - one hand clamped over his mouth, the other flailing wildly for support... "Damnit...!" His legs crumpled beneath him; he crashed onto hands and knees, coughing violently. Vision blurring, dark spots danced before his eyes as consciousness began to slip away... Akaza's gaze wildly swept his surroundings, fleeting thoughts of regret whispering past his lips: "I shouldn't have... Drank it..." His body betrayed his fading consciousness, collapsing limply onto the soft grass. Eyes fluttered closed, and he slipped into unconsciousness... The wind responded as if sensing his vulnerability, gentle breezes quickening into soft gusts around him... His chest rose and fell with slow, even breaths - the only sign of life - while fingers twitched almost imperceptibly, as if grasping for awareness lost... Moonlight casts an eerie glow over Akaza's pale, motionless form, casting an unsettling silence over the forest...
