Regina has just been chosen to be Keeper of a unicorn. There's only one problem...She can't see them! Make that two problems. She can't get out of it. Regina's tiny village shouldn't be well known. It's about the most avarage "out in the middle of a forest" town you could come by. The thatched houses number to about 75, and there are maybe that many families. Each of which needs a hunter to survive. Nothing special. But the village itself is not what makes it so widely known. It's the local unicorn haven. Nearly every small, innocent, child dreams of becoming a Keeper, a person who watches the unicorns. But run by a group of monks called the Dispatchers, the unicorn haven holds more secrets than anyone in the village suspects. As Regina gets sucked into her new job more and more secrets start coming out. A dark presence makes itself evident on the outskirts of the village. Being now a Keeper, and a tracker, one who protects the village, Regina has to keep up with it all.

Regina has survived with her broken leg through the rest of the summer, and the first part of fall. It may have been the result of Allistair's question that kept her sane for all that time. Shandu is about ready to remove her leg holder and her life will go back to normal...finally. There's a small migration of unicorns going through the area, and of course the Dispatchers will open the haven to them; even thought the haven's packed as it is. This brings a new friend--the word used lightly-- to the pasture...

The girls he flirts with pretend to be oblivious to one another. As long as they each get some alone time with Al. One day Allistair finds himself with too many girls though. What will he do? Jane Doll is SICK of it. She thinks he's a disgusting pig. So she's out to stop him. She just needs to change herself into a loud mouthed super hot chick that will beep wildly on his radar. Allistair, a greek, emotional teenage boy, is entering young adulthood in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. The story starts off with an illegal racoon in New Zealand, which creates a bond with Allistair. To thicken the plot, he wins the jackpot on his 18th birthday, then soon enough mysterious and evil events gradually occur in the Winewood Forest, Allistair's only safe place.
