The close knit town of Darkwood had a rather morbid bedtime story among its children. A shadowman, tall, wearing a long trench coat and tilted hat, lurks the streets, forests, playgrounds, and candy shoppes at night. He likes to find little children who do not listen to their parents. If you see him, you better run and not get caught, or else you will end up like little Evelyn Prescott.
A story that has been passed down generations of parents to their children so that they obey them, though many now do not realize the dark and horrible truth to it.
The disappearance of 11 year old Evelyn Prescott in 1932 had changed Darkwood forever. The town did not rest, even when her 17 year old brother Wesley was convicted for her murder. He hadn't spoken a word since his arrest, so Evelyn was still missing to the rest of the town, even if he knew where she was. After being deemed criminally insane, Wesley was instituted at a lunatic asylum, where he remained in a permanent catatonic state.
After a long 8 years, it seemed as if the town had finally come to rest. Though, on one cold November day, as a nurse was bringing Wesley his breakfast, his cell was found empty with no signs of escape.
In 1942, both Evelyn and Wesley's disappearances were considered cold cases, and even if most had decided to put it to rest, it couldn't stop detective Laverne Slater from getting to the bottom of it. Most had presumed both to be dead, and the remaining members of the Prescott family had moved far away. As a young woman in her field, she needed to prove herself worthy of her position. What better way to do it than solve the towns most haunting mystery, all the while receiving murderous threats to leave the case in the dust?
