El cuento trata sobre tres personajes que buscando un libro que se les pierde en su campamento, en el hueco de un árbol encuentran una puerta secreta, allí hay alfombras flotantes que los llevan a otro mundo en las nubes, era un lugar bello que no parecía más que un dibujo abstracto. Dos de los amigos tienen una hija, la cual, por cuestiones de que corría peligro, tuvieron que dejarla desde pequeña en la isla flotante mientras ellos se iban al mundo de la realidad, ya que los enemigos se la querían llevar. Ellos no se podían quedar ya que acabarían con los finales felices del lugar, y de ser así su hija no tendría final feliz, es decir, no se reencontrarían. Cuando la niña cumple 16 años se reencuentra con su familia, como lo había dicho un sabio.
