Finally mustering up the guts to take her life into her own hands, Layla Kato, an overworked and underappreciated editorial assistant at FOCUZ magazine, carves out an opportunity to secure a much-deserved promotion. Though hired as an assistant editor, Layla has been pigeonholed into being a glorified personal assistant by her manager. Eager to prove herself, Layla agrees to undertake a two-week project in Japan following an incident that puts her job in jeopardy. Seeing a small glimmer of hope at the end of the trip, Layla finds herself hopeful for the first time in a long time. Unbeknownst to Layla, her manager, fueled by spite, sabotages her stay, leaving her stranded in Japan.
