"When saving an endangered species means life and death, sometimes you just need to sit down and have a cup of tea." Out of work and broke, liana accepts a placement on a Xeran ship as a trainee. How hard can it be? The Pay? Well let's just say, no more bargain beans on toast for dinner, ever again. What she doesn't know she's unwittingly signed a contract without reading the small print. And the whole ship is one giant sentient plant with a bad temper. Things are not what they seem, the ship is strangely empty, no one knows what's going on and what's that strange smell from the observation deck? To make things worse, a Pumpkin has stolen her chocolate.

Deadly St. Louis epidemics of cholera and typhoid in the mid 1800s had taken her father and changed Harriet's life. With a lot of patience and courage, she left home to establish a library in a small western town. The excitement and adventure she imagined soon met an ugly reality. "I was a victim, not the avenging killer people attached to my name."

I wrote these poems in my Intermediate Poetry Workshop class for a chapbook project that spanned the entire semester. The common theme I chose was Zodiac and Astrology, alongside my own confessions to people in my life both real and hypothetical.
