Reading The Selection, I felt that Kriss needed her own story told. She had so much to say. She was calm, kind, and regal. As Kiera Cass stated, Maxon would have married Kriss if the massacre didn't happen. Many readers didn't like her, but she is a human and makes mistakes just like anybody else would. This is the Selection from Kriss's perspective and how she dealt with heartbreak and eventually finds her happily ever after.

What happened if the Rebel attack in The One never happened and Maxon chose Kriss? What would have happened to America after Kriss said 'yes' to Maxon? How would she have felt? What would happen if her heart had been broken by the man who had promised her not to break it just hours earlier? Would she survive this?

America Singer worked hard through her teen years to help support her family in the expensive providence of Angeles. She worked as a piano player and singer at a local club in the downtown area. One night a newcomer came in and America couldn't get him out of her head. Over the next few months, America and Max fall in love, but when she finds out that he is the youngest prince of Illea and that he is to be betrothed to the French princess, America springs into action and signs up for the Selection, a competition to win the heart of Prince James, Maxon's brother.
