Ewan Lyle is an academically gifted 16-year-old, Year 11, destined for early A levels and Oxford. Then, a sudden accident changes everything-he wakes up in the hospital with partial amnesia. Although doctors think it's just a concussion, Ewan struggles to recall a key part of his life.
A boy from his past is there when he awakes. After an awkward conversation, he leaves but has a journal delivered. Inside, he encourages Ewan to write his thoughts and feelings. The only problem is, Ewan doesn't know him or at least doesn't remember knowing him, so he decides to pretends to, afraid curiosity or confusion will expose his memory gaps. To maintain the illusion, he goes along as if they share a long-standing friendship.
As Ewan begins to fill the journal, he unknowingly builds a real bond with this boy. The other believes they were inseparable before the accident. Gradually, Ewan discovers an emotional truth: the friendship isn't what he thought it would be.
