Between the drops, she saw them. Tiny beings, born of shimmer and storm. Fairies. Real ones. They moved like the rain itself knew how to keep them hidden. And in that quiet wonder, something ancient stirred. Everyone else rushed past, umbrellas raised, eyes down. No one noticed. Except her. One fairy remained. Still, glowing, watching her like it had been waiting. When she whispered, "Hello," the world began to shift. But the rain wasn't the only thing falling that day. A parcel was coming. A diary that writes back. A demon who already knows her name. And a truth her father buried long ago. The past isn't sleeping. It's waking up.

A new breed of magic has caused the Vrakuul homeland to begin to die. The Vrakuul have come to Everand to seek a new home for survival and have been met with distrust. After a long discussion, the leaders of the human nations allow Lochlan Willis the opportunity to come to a diplomatic meeting for them to explain their arrival, where he learns of this magic that is killing their land. Lochlan then places an ad for sell-swords to go on an expedition to the Vrakuul country to which a human, dwarf and Truffian are hired to join. The expedition is led by Lochlan with a total of 10 men and once there, members of their group begin to disappear one by one by unknown causes. Before long it is just the four of them left and they must work together to fight the source of this magic before it spreads to the rest of the world
