All of them, The Tsar Nicholas II and his dear wife, Alexandra alongside their precious daughter's and son dying with no hope that that they'd survive to see the sun again. Well not all of them, their only heir Alexei had survived against all exceptions due to his blood disease, had found him all alone in a world he had to hide from until he got somewhere safe. Later in 1928, he married a woman of a wealthy family while hiding under a false family as well as name, later telling her when he knew it was safe enough. Now in the present era, their descendants live in Mystic Falls unaware of the dangers that lurk within the town soon find themselves in an adventure of life and romance after a boy named Stefan Salvatore moves into town.

Dancing bears, painted wings, things I almost remember and a song someone sings, once upon a December. It's 1927, and there's a rumour in St. Petersburg. Although the Tsar did not survive, one daughter may be still alive, the Princess Anastasia, but please do not repeat. This is the companion novel to the 2017 Broadway musical, giving insights to the story, and telling a much darker, historical twist to the enchanting tale. Years after an attack on the Romanov family, the royal family is trying to find their long lost members. Some believe they are all still alive, some speculate they were brutally murdered as a family. The reward for finding one family member is 12,000,000 rubles, a reward higher than the lottery. The people of Russia are willing to do anything to obtain the reward, anything from faking their appearances to digging up graves in hopes of finding a body, a jewel, a crown. Luka wants the money just as much as anybody else in Russia. And when he finds Arkadina (Arkadi for short), the spitting image of Anastasia, the lost grand duchess, he can't believe his luck. Arkadi knows who she is, in fact, she's trying to forget. Sure, if she returned to the palace, she would be treated like the princess she is, but that's not enough to make her want to return to the life she had as a child. Something worse is waiting for her back home and she'd rather die than let anyone take her back to the palace.

After the deaths of the Imperial Family, the Mikaelsons fled Russia when they caught word of their father drawing nearer to St. Petersburg. They mourned. However, over 90 years later when they set foot in the city of New Orleans, the empire they built from the ground up, they are shocked not only by the vampire Marcel, who they assumed to be dead, to be up and kicking running the city that once belonged to them but there was one other they did not expect to see. Unknown to many of the creatures of the night who roam the streets there is one other person who rules by Marcel's side. Someone who has seen first hand what to do and what not to do when it comes to ruling. Someone who should have died many years in a cell with her family. The rumors had been true, Anastasia Romanov had indeed survived the violent assassination of her family, just not in the way people had expected, and she living the life and partying it up in the streets of the French Quarter.
