He escapes from the house, but in his car, he realizes that the painting's eyes are fixed on him and he can't stop driving. He eventually crashes into a tree and dies. The painting is later found by another man who falls into the same trap as Jack. The story ends with the painting being sold to another person, and it remains unclear what happens to the new owner.
