A detective. An ancient jar. A formula written in blood.
When Hong Kong detective Shen Zhao lands in Luxor, the heat hits him before the case does. A series of deaths has been linked to an 18th Dynasty ceramic jar unearthed near the Valley of the Kings - the kind of jar that should have stayed sealed.
Dr. Rashid, the archaeologist who opened it, says the spores inside killed the first victim. But when a second body appears, and then a third, Shen Zhao begins to suspect that the jar is not just an artifact. It is a vessel - for a method passed down through one family's bloodline, a formula from the royal physician of the 18th Dynasty, hidden in the double wall of the jar for three thousand years.
With only his AI assistant A-Qi and a papyrus fragment that might predate the pyramids, Shen Zhao follows a trail of ancient prescriptions, modern murders, and a father's unfinished case code - GX-025 - that leads from the banks of the Nile to somewhere much colder.
The dead have a book. It has a chapter called 125 - the weighing of the heart against the feather of truth. Someone in Luxor is using it as a checklist.
This is Volume 2 of the Shen Zhao Mystery series. Volume 1, The Paper Dead, is available on Amazon Kindle Unlimited.
