Liminal (adjective):
existing in a threshold state between worlds or phases, where time feels suspended, certainty loosens, and transformation begins to breathe.
A self-made lawyer with no memory of her origins has built a life in New York City defined by control and self-reliance. She does not know where she came from. She does not look for it.
When fractures begin to appear in a realm that governs souls, she is pulled into a time that exists before her birth.
There, she encounters two figures locked in conflict. They are young, powerful, and sworn enemies. Their bond is undeniable, even as they fight against it. They are soulmates bound across lifetimes, drawn together by something neither loyalty nor hatred can sever.
They are her parents.
She watches them before love softened them, before choice divided them, before she ever existed. They do not recognize her, but the world does. The realm reacts to her presence with unease, as if something that should not yet exist has stepped too close to becoming real.
What she has always felt as emptiness was never a lack of family, only separation by time.
This is not a story about finding love.
It is a story about witnessing the forces that created you.
