And just like that, Big opened his eyes. I felt a wave of relief flood through me. What felt like months of sitting in that hospital waiting room, picturing what my life would be without him, was only a few hours in reality. I imagined the funeral. How Charlotte would blame herself for convincing me to go to Lily's piano recital. I thought about my fude with Samantha, how it all felt so insignificant now. I even thought about Aiden! And how no other man could ever make me as happy as I was with Big, no matter how much I tried to convince myself. His eyes, furrowed and confused, scoured the room before finally landing on my face. His brow softened, his mouth slowly formed a smile as he whispered, "Hey Kid."
